Title: Subsaharan Migrants in the Heart of the Oulad Ziane Quarter of Casablanca
Short summary: Morocco presents itself as an ally of the European Union in the fight against irregular migration. It is also a transit point for sub-Saharans who are flocking more and more to Morocco. They occupy public spaces and tensions develope between them and the local people. Confrontations take place. The Moroccan authorities used to turn a blind eye to this situation had to intervene. Sub-Saharan migrants are trapped, some do not have the financial means to regularize their stay in Morocco. Others are still dreaming of crossing to Europe but they often come back with blows and wounds. The report is from the worst camp in Casablanca. My investigation comes after a fight with the fire and stones between the Casablancans and sub-Saharans. As a female journalist, I took a great risk, to enter this camp without attracting the wrath of the residents. It took me several visits to gain the trust of the migrants. Our investigation was made at a time when the police were encircling the emigrant camp. They were not allowed to go out. They were deprived of drinking water. I spent two days in the rainy season with them. The migrants were angry and angry. Their camp was flooded. For most of them, I represented the Moroccans who treated them badly and the journalists who did nothing for them. But I convinced them that my article will lift the secret about the repression and harsh living conditions imposed on them.
